It was with some considerable sadness that we heard of the demise of the Jenners department store this week.  We have attached photographs from our marketing brochure for the property which we sold on behalf of LNC Property Group for £53m in 2017.  We acquired the property from the Douglas Miller family as a sale and leaseback in 2005 for a price of £37.2m before selling after 12 years of ownership following a change in our client’s investment priorities.  The 180,000 sqft icon was one of the world’s oldest department stores, having opened in 1838, 11 years before Harrods in Knightsbridge (1849), 20 years before Macy’s in New York (1858) and over 70 years before Selfridges on Oxford Street (1909).  The original building on the site was destroyed by fire in 1892 and the William Hamilton Beattie Grade A listed Victorian masterpiece was opened in 1895.

We are both hopeful and confident that the new owners of the property will return the building to its former glory in the near future.
